CIC welcomes Rev. Ruth Lenger to the pulpit this Sunday, August 9th. Salem Presbytery assigned Rev. Lenger to serve CIC during our transition period as our Commission on Ministry (COM) connector. She serves in this capacity jointly with Rev. Lisa Mullen. Rev. Lenger was first introduced to CIC when she attended a Session meeting last spring and encouraged us to move forward with organizing the small group work with Rev. Kent Williams-Berry as part of our transition effort. The following is a brief bio that she has provided so we can know her a bit better! Ruth Lenger grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan and trained as a nurse. After marrying, they moved to High Point, N.C. where they raised three children. Ruth later returned to Salem College and received double majors in religion and psychology. She then attended Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia and was ordained at Forest Hills PC in High Point, NC. After serving several churches in Salem Presbytery, Ruth continues as Pulpit Supply and has served on a number of Committees for Salem. Her time these days also finds her traveling to her three children,10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild living in 5 other states!

Becoming A Healthier Church: A Congregational Learning and Listening Process Becoming a Healthier Church is a congregational learning and listening process designed to help us reflect on who we are, how we relate to one another, and how we can prepare faithfully for future pastoral leadership. Several gatherings are being scheduled that will each include a brief teaching component on congregational health, followed by guided reflection and structured listening. The purpose is not to debate or assign blame, but to help us become more thoughtful, less reactive, more connected, and more open to God’s future for our church. This is not a town hall meeting, or a complaint session or a decision making meeting. It is a spiritual and relational process intended to help our church listen, reflect, and mature together. We are invited to speak from our own experience, listen without correcting others, and consider our own part in the health of our congregation. Each active participant in the life of Community in Christ is invited to sign up for one gathering. Gatherings are being limited to 15 participants. A variety of opportunities for participation are being provided in August. This is one of the steps in our process under Presbytery guidelines that will not only benefit us as a congregation but also move us closer to selection of our Pastor Nominating Committee. Reverend Kent Berry from High Point Family Therapy Services at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church in HIgh Point will be guiding us in this process. He often works with congregations in transition.

Steps of Hope: Walk for GUM at CIC!

Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. Join us for Steps of Hope and help our neighbors in need throughout Guilford County. Whether you walk or make a donation, 100% of the funds raised stay here in our community, providing direct assistance to individuals and families facing crisis. Steps of Hope T-shirts are on display in the Fellowship Hall and are available for $10 each (cash or checks payable to GUM). All proceeds benefit Greensboro Urban Ministry. Blessing of the Backpacks Sunday, September 13 Students, teachers, school staff, and everyone starting a new school year are invited to bring a backpack, laptop, briefcase, tablet, or other school or work bag for a special blessing on Sunday, September 13. Participants will receive a glow-in-the-dark star backpack tag featuring Ephesians 5:8, “Walk as children of light.” Join us as we pray for God’s guidance, protection, and peace throughout the year ahead. |

Registration for the 2026-27 School year for the CIC Preschool is still open. Our quality program for children ages one through Pre-K operates Monday - Friday from 9am until 1pm September through May. Families may choose three days or five days a week for children from ages one to three. The Pre-K class is five days a week. There will be registration packets at both entrances of the Church.
