This Sunday is our Pennies for Hunger and Food for GUM collection day! These wonderful ministries not only feed the hungry, but also teach our children generosity, compassion, and joy in giving. CIC children will collect Pennies for Hunger during the worship service on November 5 so please bring your coins! You may also bring food donations to the GUM Drive-Thru after the worship service until noon. Thank you for helping those who need it most!


Christmas Potluck Brunch – Celebrate the coming of Christ at our Christmas Potluck Brunch following the worship service on December 3, CIC’s Charter Sunday! Please sign up in the narthex with your name, number attending, and choice of bringing a meat or entrée, breakfast casserole or veggies, salad or fruit, or dessert. The deadline to sign up for this joyous celebration is Sunday, November 26.


Greetings CIC! One thing that makes the work of the Stewardship Committee a pleasure is the level of commitment of the members of our Community in Christ. When pledges are made, they are consistently fulfilled. Please take a moment to see where you are in meeting your pledge for 2023. We do not currently create giving statements as we have in the past, but if you cannot determine from your own records where you are with your pledge, please reach out to our treasurer, Jordan Morris. Jordan's email address is below. Remember that Jordan is the only person in the church with knowledge of pledges and year to date giving. As we move into fall, if you have been busy and let your pledge fall behind a bit, thank you for catching it up. This allows us to end 2023 on a positive note and move smoothly into planning for 2024.

Our deepest condolences to the family of CIC's brother in Christ, Steven Stringer, who completed his Baptism on Oct. 21st after a lengthy battle with cancer.  Obituary at:  https://bit.ly/SteveStringerOBIT  Hospice is listed as the recipient of memorial donations, but donations may be earmarked for CIC's Montreat Fund since the Montreat experiences of our youth growing in faith were near and dear to Steve's heart. Suzanne added that the Stringers are very grateful for the peace proffered from feeling "bubble-wrapped" in the love extended in prayers and support by their CIC church family. A Celebration of Life for Steve will be held at CIC on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 11am.




2023 Greensboro Urban Ministry Holiday Honor Cards

Since 1983, Greensboro Urban Ministry has presented a holiday honor card as a meaningful way to honor a friend or loved one by providing a gift that also helps our neighbors in need. For thirty-five of the forty-year Honor Card history, Greensboro Urban Ministry was blessed to have the very dedicated artist Bill Mangum design our Honor Card. This year, we have a new artist to carry on the long-time tradition of the GUM Honor Card program. This year’s card, designed by local artist Maria Santana, is titled Victoria’s Kindness. The holiday season reminds us all to show kindness to one another.

 

Honor Cards are a wonderful way to show appreciation for the special people in your life. Please see Debbie Wingate to purchase “the gift that gives back to the community,” as 100% of the $5 contribution per GUM Honor Card helps many who are experiencing hunger, food insecurity, and homelessness. You may write a check to CIC with “GUM Honor Cards” in the memo line. Thank you very much for supporting Greensboro Urban Ministry!



Veterans Sunday

We will display pictures of our veterans and active duty military on a Tree of Valor in the narthex for Veterans Sunday, November 12. Please submit your photographs for CIC’s Tree of Valor to Keven Cockrell in person or by email at keven1@bellsouth.net by Monday, November 6, so that we might acknowledge loved ones who have served our nation. Thank you!

  CIC Tidings Thursday, March 21, 2024 CIC sends deepest condolences to Jan Greene on the death of her husband Harlen Greene after a courageous battle with cancer. Let's keep Jan and her family on our hearts and lifted in prayer.   Any change to CIC’s Endowment Resolution requires a vote of the congregation. To that end, an Information Session will be held after worship on Sunday 4/21 with the Congregational Vote to occur after worship on Sunday 5/05. Packets of the edited document (which has been approved by Session) are available  in print form at CIC in the narthex. Please lift Sherry Jensen and the Jenkin's Family in love and prayer on the death of her father, Gary Jenkins, who passed away unexpectedly on March 19, 2024. Our VBS mission project is to collect food for our neighbors in need through Greensboro Urban Ministry.   CIC TIDINGS Thursday, July 27, 2023 CIC Calendar Thank you very much for filling the GUM Donation Cave! We greatly appreciate your generous support of our food collection for Greensboro Urban Ministry! The total donation for July was 726 pounds of nonperishable food items, which will bless many people who are food insecure in our community. Food insecurity is a lack of consistent access to enough food for every person in a household to live an active, healthy life. Our next GUM Drive-Thru will be on Sunday, September 10 , after the worship service until noon. ALL COMMUNITIES MEETING 6pm - Monday, August 14, 2023 Members of ALL THREE Communities (Life, Outreach, and Stewardship) PLUS other CIC members are invited to meet together on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 6pm . Please help with the “ un-decorating ” of CIC after the worship service this Sunday, January 7. Second Hour will resume on January 14! I offer profound and numerous thanks to all of you for your words of comfort at the death of my mother, Jean McFarland. Not only did she hear me/us during the livestream of the Christmas Eve Candlelight service, but my brother, Kent served her communion that night before she transitioned in the early evening of Christmas Day!
